Top 10 Scenes in Film, 2015 (One scene per film)

Hon. Mention: Something from Brooklyn but I need to re-watch, to pinpoint which scene exactly. Films like The End of the Tour and The Force Awakens for me don't have any particular scenes which stand out as being really great but I in general just loved them all.

Hon. Mentions: 'You're Nuts!' in Legend, 'Starman' from The Martian

10. 'You Wanna Take That Bridge?': Beasts of No Nation (The film is structurally quite flawed but like The Revenant has some absolutely brilliant scenes which stand out so well. This is my favourite as it all comes together beautifully. The music, Idris Elba's performance, and the emotional heft behind it.)

9. Fitzgerald Kills Hawk: The Revenant (Though I still don't think it's a flawless films, The Revenant certainly has many flawless scenes. Out of them all however, I think that the scene where Fitzgerald commits his most heinous act is the most marvellous as both Hardy and DiCaprio hit the high points of their performances and it's also brilliantly directed. Although the bear scene and 'God is a squirrel' come very, very close.)

8. Dance Scene: Ex Machina (Like David Lynch just suddently leapt into Alex Garland's universe and turned Oscar Isaac into a modern-day Dean Stockwell. Hurt a bit picking this scene out of all Alicia Vikander's great scenes though)

7.  'You'd be surprised what a man would do...': The Hateful Eight (tough choice between this, Daisy's song, Daisy's proposition, Oswaldo's speech on frontier justice, the Coffee scene, and of course the fabulous ending, but I went with perhaps Samuel L. Jackson's greatest scene of all-time)

6. Meeting Ann Kelmot: Mr Holmes (Unfortunately couldn't find the scene of this online. Anyway, just watch the film. McKellen is absolutely pitch-perfect in this scene in showing the cold intellectual exterior of Holmes slowly slip away and one-scene wonder Hattie Morahana is fabulous too.)

5. The Sandstorm: Mad Max: Fury Road (What a day. What a lovely day.)

4. Alejandro Exacts Revenge: Sicario (pulsating score sets the tone but then after that it's all down to Del Toro. I was torn between this scene and the scene with him and Kate, palyed by Emily Blunt, where he's trying to force her to sign the papers. Anyway, I chose this scene because it's pretty much the tensest scene I've seen all year)

3. 'Standing Man': Bridge of Spies (the greatest monologue of the year. Need I say more? Would it help? Anyway, you remind me of a man...)

2. The Final Fight: Creed (also couldn't find the whole scene to this but nevertheless, this is an amazing scene as it hearkens back to the epic Rocky series, gearing you up for a most momentual final fight, whether you're a fan of the series or not it'll send chills down your spine. It was tough to pick out this scene over Rocky's graveside scene, the running scene, or the cancer confrontation scene, or the ending)

1. First Kiss/The Love Scene: Carol (I can't post the full scene for fear of getting it taken down, but suffice to say that even in a film chock full of great scenes, this easily stood out for me as the best. It's the most beautifully, tenderly done love scene I've seen in ages and everything just comes together so well, the imagery, the music, the performances)

  1. A fine list, and hey that's also my favorite scene in Mad Max, which is really saying something.

    1. It was between that and 'Witness Me' for the last time. I kinda chose the sandstorm because it involves all the principles.
